Welcome to the Thomas Wolsey School Outreach Service
|
| |
The Outreach Service was set up in 2001 to support the inclusion of pupils with physical disabilities and associated learning difficulties into mainstream schools in Suffolk. We are based at Thomas Wolsey School in Ipswich which is an all age special school for pupils aged 3 to 19
The school was relocated in January 2009 to the same site as Thurleston High school. This has provided many exciting new opportunities for our pupils.

Many of the pupils at Thomas Wolsey School are on dual placement which means that they spend some of their time in mainstream school and the remainder of the week in the special school. This provides the best of both worlds for the pupils as they have specialist provision and the expertise of the multi professional team at Thomas Wolsey School and are also included in their local school.

‘My child has definitely benefited from the placement and is known in his local community. Other children come up to him and speak to him as an equal because of their experience of being with him at school.’ Quote from a parent December 2009 |

‘Of the pupils currently on roll, forty one of these are dual placed, being educated for varying parts of the week in their local mainstream schools. The school provides an outreach service both to support these placements and the inclusion of other pupils with physical needs in mainstream schools. This is a growing part of its work.
The excellent outreach service is very highly regarded by schools, who say that because the advice and support provided is so highly relevant and encouraging, 'this makes the placement work.' The school, with its partner schools, is remarkably successful in maintaining an increasing proportion of its pupils, some with highly complex physical and learning needs, within their local communities and schools.’ Ofsted July 2009 |
